FOR THURSDAY: Read "The Magic Show," by Tim O'Brien. In this essay, Tim O’Brien (the author of “On the Rainy River”) explains what he thinks the purpose of this art form is. As you read through this, try to gather an understanding of what believes the purpose of storytelling is. Highlight, underline, or otherwise note examples he uses to illustrate his point. Note the points that you agree and disagree with. During Thursday’s class, you will write a brief (approximately one paragraph) summary of what he believes the purpose of storytelling is, citing points he makes this essay, and your response to his argument.
