  • We started our day with "I Wanna Hear a Poem" by Steve Coleman. Here is the text.
  • We shared reviews of books that we finished reading last week and set a new page goal for this week.

  • We used the rubric to offer one another feedback on our opening statements. Feel free to look back at my opening statement and slide deck.

  • We started our day with "For Levi" by Joshua Bennett. Here is the text.
  • After reading, we continued to work on our drafts of our opening statements. Here is  the rubric for our opening statements,  my opening statement and my slide deck for reference. Be ready to workshop these on Monday in class. 
  • Flashback Friday took us back to ninth grade as we brainstormed the answers to some of these questions in our notebooks. Here is what we are working toward. 
  • We talked briefly about the Articles of the Week. We will continue this on Monday.

  • We started our day with "Thinking About You" by Mike Taylor.
  • After reading, we looked at the rubric for our opening statements. You helped me to revise my opening statement and offered feedback on my slide deck.
  • We worked on the drafts of our opening statements. You will be debating on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday of next week.
FOR FRIDAY:
  • Remember to read and respond to the Article of the Week.
  • Work on the draft of your opening statement. You will turn it in at the end of tomorrow's class.

  • We started our day with Brenna Twohy's "Anxiety: A Ghost Story." Here is the text.
  • After reading, we had a mock debate using the format in which we will debate our election issues.
  • We discussed the multigenre creative writing piece we will be working on. We started brainstorming ideas today in class.

  • We started our day with some collaborative Scrabble. 
  • Once we warmed up with some letters and words, we moved on to some phrases. We each created and performed our "Ode to Spring Break."
  • ​We listened to Sarah Kay's performance of "Brother." Here is the text.
  • We shared reviews of the books we finished over the break and set a page goal for the upcoming week. 
  • We reviewed the schedule for the last few weeks.
